A/Prof Craig Taylor is an Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon with over two decades of experience in the surgical management of complex digestive conditions. As part of our team, he contributes specialist surgical expertise within a collaborative gastroenterology-led model, supporting comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and continuity of care.

He is recognised for his measured, patient-focused approach and his use of minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to optimise recovery, reduce surgical impact and deliver effective outcomes. A/Prof Taylor has a strong clinical interest in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), hiatal hernia, gallstones and gallbladder removal, working closely with our gastroenterology team to ensure appropriate evaluation and management for each patient.

He works closely with our gastroenterology team to provide coordinated, patient-focused care, guiding each person from initial assessment through to treatment and ongoing follow-up.

Credentials

A/Prof Taylor graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney and completed specialist General Surgery training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He undertook advanced fellowship training in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery across Australia, Europe and the United States, gaining international experience that informs his contemporary surgical practice.

He has performed in excess of 10,000 upper gastrointestinal and metabolic procedures and maintains a strong commitment to minimally invasive surgery to support reduced pain, shorter hospital stays and a safe return to daily activities.

In addition to clinical practice, A/Prof Taylor is Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Mater Hospital and a Senior Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Concord Repatriation General Hospital. He holds an academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame Australia and is actively involved in surgical education, training and research. He regularly presents at national and international meetings and has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications.

A/Prof Taylor is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of:
