Thomas Paavola

Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD)

Dietitian & Nutritionist
Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Newcastle

Thomas is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) with postgraduate qualifications in Nutrition & Dietetics and full membership with the Dietitians Association of Australia. Thomas is particularly interested in the application of evidence-based dietetic strategies for improving chronic pain management and inflammatory conditions. As a migraine sufferer himself, Tom is extremely compassionate when it comes to addressing complex chronic pain issues and understands the daily challenges involved in living with chronic pain.

Prior to addressing his own diet, Tom experienced up to six debilitating migraines per fortnight and it was having a major impact on his quality of life. With a targeted nutritional approach, Tom has now reduced his migraine frequency to one every eight weeks. This personal experience has fuelled Tom’s passion to empower others with nutritional knowledge and strategies to improve their own health and wellbeing.

Thomas gained his early dietetic experience at Gosford Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital performing clinical and food service tasks. More recently, he has developed as a private practice dietitian working as a dietitian and nutritionist at Ellipse Health.

Tom currently provides in-house dietetic services at the Centre for Gastrointestinal Health. He assists in the development and delivery of Nutrition Care Plans which are typically aimed at minimising systemic inflammation, improving gastrointestinal health and optimising metabolic function.
